PLECK lesson 3 · suggested week 1, day 3

Permission, privacy, and a safe stop rule

Objective. Permission, privacy, and a safe stop rule:apply the stated method to a concrete case, produce the requested evidence, and justify safe, private, and accessible choices.

About 25–50 minutes. The due date is chosen by a parent.

Split across sittings as needed;no timer or required date.Adult approval remains required even for independent work.

Materials: paper, pencil, optional calculator.

Before a household task, ask an adult to approve the location, materials, and level of help. Stop if a label is missing, a tool is damaged, an allergy is uncertain, or the adult cannot supervise a hazardous step. A simulation can teach the same decision without heat, sharp tools, chemicals, or spending. Evidence need not show a face, a home layout, an address, or a family financial record. Submit only to a parent or the private family course page. Safety and privacy decisions are part of the work itself. Safety and boundaries: Adult approval for any physical task. No heat, sharp tools, chemicals, heavy lifting, climbing, or electrical repair without the specific adult-managed safe option; paper is always sufficient. Family-only evidence;use fictional details,no faces or private records. No purchases are required.

Worked example

Unscored model for discussion;use the assignment case for your own work.

Instead of photographing medicine storage, a student draws a generic locked cabinet labeled “adult-managed.” The drawing communicates the safety principle without displaying real medicines or room details.

Permission, privacy, and a safe stop rule — evidence and reflection

  1. 1. Create a stop/ask/proceed checklist with at least six checks for a pretend kitchen task.
  2. 2. Sort these evidence choices into safer or needs revision:face-free sketch, bank statement photo, fictional receipt, public video of a child. Explain.
  3. 3. Write a script for declining a task when supervision is unavailable.
  4. 4. Make a paper permission card listing task, adult role, materials, privacy, and stop conditions. Use no real names.

Acceptance checks

An adult supervises. This stays in the family. Spending is not required.

For any optional food, adult verifies all ingredients and established allergy needs;avoid cross-contact,no tolerance tests, and use paper food if uncertain. For clothing/cleaning,adult checks sensitivities and labels;no chemical mixing.

Adult approval for any physical task. No heat, sharp tools, chemicals, heavy lifting, climbing, or electrical repair without the specific adult-managed safe option; paper is always sufficient.

Complete the entire task using paper diagrams, fictional data,empty/inactive tools, and parent-observed explanation.

  • No unsupervised heat,sharp tools,cleaners,or appliances.
  • No raw-meat handling,unsafe food tasting,chemical mixing,flame/smoke experiments,or electrical repair.
  • No real childcare/medical/intimate care,financial transactions,credentials,private records,or public posting.

If this is still shaky. Use this lesson’s worked model to make a three-box process card.Label the goal, one safety/constraint check, and the evidence you would show.Explain it to a parent before trying the main task again.

Optional extra. Change one fictional constraint in this lesson, such as available time, access, ingredient restriction,or pretend cost.Revise one artifact and show what must change and what safety/privacy rule stays fixed.
