PLECK lesson 13 · suggested week 3, day 3

Create a household systems portfolio

Objective. Create a household systems portfolio:apply the stated method to a concrete case, produce the requested evidence, and justify safe, private, and accessible choices.

About 35–75 minutes. The due date is chosen by a parent.

Split across sittings as needed;no timer or required date.Adult approval remains required even for independent work.

Materials: paper, pencil, optional calculator.

A portfolio shows planning, process, evidence, and reflection rather than only a finished product. Choose fictional names and materials. Keep drafts so your parent can see a revision. A strong explanation identifies a constraint and justifies a safer or more accessible method. This project uses the maps, checklists, and time tools from the unit; it does not require changes to a real household or a public presentation. Safety and boundaries: Adult approval for any physical task. No heat, sharp tools, chemicals, heavy lifting, climbing, or electrical repair without the specific adult-managed safe option; paper is always sufficient. Family-only evidence;use fictional details,no faces or private records. No purchases are required.

Worked example

Unscored model for discussion;use the assignment case for your own work.

A portfolio page can pair a generic worktable sketch with a checklist and a revised timeline. A short note explains why a buffer and clear walkway were added.

Create a household systems portfolio — evidence and reflection

  1. 1. Create a fictional two-person homework-and-snack scenario with one access need and one time limit.
  2. 2. Submit a system map, role chart, and task-dependency diagram for that scenario.
  3. 3. Make a 45-minute timeline including setup, work, cleanup, and buffer.
  4. 4. Revise one artifact after a parent’s feedback or a self-check. Write what changed and why.
  5. 5. Spiral review — List three private details that a household-course assignment should not require. Spiral review.

Acceptance checks

An adult supervises. This stays in the family. Spending is not required.

For any optional food, adult verifies all ingredients and established allergy needs;avoid cross-contact,no tolerance tests, and use paper food if uncertain. For clothing/cleaning,adult checks sensitivities and labels;no chemical mixing.

Adult approval for any physical task. No heat, sharp tools, chemicals, heavy lifting, climbing, or electrical repair without the specific adult-managed safe option; paper is always sufficient.

Complete the entire task using paper diagrams, fictional data,empty/inactive tools, and parent-observed explanation.

  • No unsupervised heat,sharp tools,cleaners,or appliances.
  • No raw-meat handling,unsafe food tasting,chemical mixing,flame/smoke experiments,or electrical repair.
  • No real childcare/medical/intimate care,financial transactions,credentials,private records,or public posting.

If this is still shaky. Use this lesson’s worked model to make a three-box process card.Label the goal, one safety/constraint check, and the evidence you would show.Explain it to a parent before trying the main task again.

Optional extra. Change one fictional constraint in this lesson, such as available time, access, ingredient restriction,or pretend cost.Revise one artifact and show what must change and what safety/privacy rule stays fixed.
