PLECK lesson 14 · suggested week 3, day 4

Explain a safe alternative under pressure

Objective. Explain a safe alternative under pressure:apply the stated method to a concrete case, produce the requested evidence, and justify safe, private, and accessible choices.

About 25–50 minutes. The due date is chosen by a parent.

Split across sittings as needed;no timer or required date.Adult approval remains required even for independent work.

Materials: paper, pencil, optional calculator.

Plans often change. When materials, time, or adult help disappear, protect the goal without ignoring safety. State the new constraint, identify which step must stop, and choose a simulation or smaller task. Communicate the change clearly. A fallback plan is successful when it preserves learning and avoids hidden costs or private disclosures. It is acceptable to defer a practical task; completion pressure never overrides a stop rule. Safety and boundaries: Adult approval for any physical task. No heat, sharp tools, chemicals, heavy lifting, climbing, or electrical repair without the specific adult-managed safe option; paper is always sufficient. Family-only evidence;use fictional details,no faces or private records. No purchases are required.

Worked example

Unscored model for discussion;use the assignment case for your own work.

If an adult cannot supervise a knife task, the student switches to a labeled paper cutting diagram. The evidence shows tool placement and sequence without using a sharp tool.

Explain a safe alternative under pressure — evidence and reflection

  1. 1. An adult cannot supervise, a recipe needs heat, and only 20 minutes remain. Write a revised learning plan.
  2. 2. A classmate proposes a public home-tour video as evidence. Write a privacy-preserving alternative.
  3. 3. Your pretend supply budget falls from$12 to$0. Revise a planned checklist project.
  4. 4. Write a four-sentence explanation of your stop rule, substitute evidence, adult review, and next step.
  5. 5. Spiral review — List three private details that a household-course assignment should not require. Spiral review.

Acceptance checks

An adult supervises. This stays in the family. Spending is a simulation, not real money.

For any optional food, adult verifies all ingredients and established allergy needs;avoid cross-contact,no tolerance tests, and use paper food if uncertain. For clothing/cleaning,adult checks sensitivities and labels;no chemical mixing.

Adult approval for any physical task. No heat, sharp tools, chemicals, heavy lifting, climbing, or electrical repair without the specific adult-managed safe option; paper is always sufficient.

Complete the entire task using paper diagrams, fictional data,empty/inactive tools, and parent-observed explanation.

  • No unsupervised heat,sharp tools,cleaners,or appliances.
  • No raw-meat handling,unsafe food tasting,chemical mixing,flame/smoke experiments,or electrical repair.
  • No real childcare/medical/intimate care,financial transactions,credentials,private records,or public posting.

If this is still shaky. Use this lesson’s worked model to make a three-box process card.Label the goal, one safety/constraint check, and the evidence you would show.Explain it to a parent before trying the main task again.

Optional extra. Change one fictional constraint in this lesson, such as available time, access, ingredient restriction,or pretend cost.Revise one artifact and show what must change and what safety/privacy rule stays fixed.
