PLECK lesson 41 · suggested week 9, day 1

Plan for allergies, preferences, and culture

Objective. Plan for allergies, preferences, and culture:apply the stated method to a concrete case, produce the requested evidence, and justify safe, private, and accessible choices.

About 25–50 minutes. The due date is chosen by a parent.

Split across sittings as needed;no timer or required date.Adult approval remains required even for independent work.

Materials: paper, pencil, optional calculator.

Ask about needs respectfully, and accept that someone may keep medical or cultural information private. A class plan can use fictional needs instead of real disclosures. Identify ingredients and cross-contact risks, then let an adult verify suitability. Do not promise“allergen-free”based on a guess. Offering choices and separate serving tools can support inclusion, but does not replace an established allergy plan. Safety and boundaries: Use fictional menus/labels, not weight, calorie, body, or private intake tracking. Adult verifies ingredient restrictions; no student prescribes diets or tests allergies. Family-only evidence;use fictional details,no faces or private records. No purchases are required.

Worked example

Unscored model for discussion;use the assignment case for your own work.

A fictional guest avoids milk; the planner lists ingredients and asks an adult to verify alternatives instead of removing visible cheese from a finished dish.

Plan for allergies, preferences, and culture — evidence and reflection

  1. 1. Create a fictional guest card with one allergy and one preference. No real name.
  2. 2. Revise a fictional lunch containing the allergen and identify two cross-contact checks.
  3. 3. Write a respectful question that does not demand private medical details.
  4. 4. Design an equally valued paper/no-food participation option.
  5. 5. Spiral review — A ready-to-eat salad was touched by raw-meat tongs. Write the response and prevention. Spiral review.

Acceptance checks

An adult supervises. This stays in the family. Spending is not required.

For any optional food, adult verifies all ingredients and established allergy needs;avoid cross-contact,no tolerance tests, and use paper food if uncertain. For clothing/cleaning,adult checks sensitivities and labels;no chemical mixing.

Use fictional menus/labels, not weight, calorie, body, or private intake tracking. Adult verifies ingredient restrictions; no student prescribes diets or tests allergies.

Complete the entire task using paper diagrams, fictional data,empty/inactive tools, and parent-observed explanation.

  • No unsupervised heat,sharp tools,cleaners,or appliances.
  • No raw-meat handling,unsafe food tasting,chemical mixing,flame/smoke experiments,or electrical repair.
  • No real childcare/medical/intimate care,financial transactions,credentials,private records,or public posting.

If this is still shaky. Use this lesson’s worked model to make a three-box process card.Label the goal, one safety/constraint check, and the evidence you would show.Explain it to a parent before trying the main task again.

Optional extra. Change one fictional constraint in this lesson, such as available time, access, ingredient restriction,or pretend cost.Revise one artifact and show what must change and what safety/privacy rule stays fixed.
