PLECK lesson 71 · suggested week 15, day 1

Soup assembly and safe reheating

Objective. Soup assembly and safe reheating:apply the stated method to a concrete case, produce the requested evidence, and justify safe, private, and accessible choices.

About 25–50 minutes. The due date is chosen by a parent.

Split across sittings as needed;no timer or required date.Adult approval remains required even for independent work.

Materials: paper, pencil, optional calculator.

An original paper soup plan can combine 2 cups low-sodium broth, 1 cup ready-to-eat beans, and 1 cup prepared vegetables for four small portions. Actual preparation requires adult ingredient review and heat management; follow package directions and appropriate safe handling. If reheating prepared soup/leftovers, reheat to 165°F and bring soups/sauces to a rolling boil as USDA directs. Cool leftovers promptly in shallow portions. Safety and boundaries: Every real preparation requires adult-approved ingredients and direct supervision. Adult manages heat/sharp tools; paper ingredients and inactive appliances are complete alternatives. No tasting requirement. Family-only evidence;use fictional details,no faces or private records. No purchases are required.

Worked example

Unscored model for discussion;use the assignment case for your own work.

The four-cup paper plan makes four one-cup portions before any evaporation; real yield may change during heating.

Soup assembly and safe reheating — evidence and reflection

  1. 1. Make an ingredient/yield table for the paper soup and double it.
  2. 2. Create a hot-to-cold leftover flowchart.
  3. 3. Identify two broth/bean label checks before serving a fictional allergic guest.
  4. 4. Rehearse ladling with an empty cold bowl or diagram the process and burn controls.
  5. 5. Spiral review — Draw or describe two controls for steam/hot-pan risk and the adult role. Spiral review.

Acceptance checks

An adult supervises. This stays in the family. Spending is not required.

For any optional food, adult verifies all ingredients and established allergy needs;avoid cross-contact,no tolerance tests, and use paper food if uncertain. For clothing/cleaning,adult checks sensitivities and labels;no chemical mixing.

Every real preparation requires adult-approved ingredients and direct supervision. Adult manages heat/sharp tools; paper ingredients and inactive appliances are complete alternatives. No tasting requirement.

Complete the entire task using paper diagrams, fictional data,empty/inactive tools, and parent-observed explanation.

  • No unsupervised heat,sharp tools,cleaners,or appliances.
  • No raw-meat handling,unsafe food tasting,chemical mixing,flame/smoke experiments,or electrical repair.
  • No real childcare/medical/intimate care,financial transactions,credentials,private records,or public posting.

If this is still shaky. Use this lesson’s worked model to make a three-box process card.Label the goal, one safety/constraint check, and the evidence you would show.Explain it to a parent before trying the main task again.

Optional extra. Change one fictional constraint in this lesson, such as available time, access, ingredient restriction,or pretend cost.Revise one artifact and show what must change and what safety/privacy rule stays fixed.
