PLECK lesson 89 · suggested week 18, day 4

Midyear portfolio rehearsal and transfer

Objective. Midyear portfolio rehearsal and transfer:apply the stated method to a concrete case, produce the requested evidence, and justify safe, private, and accessible choices.

About 25–50 minutes. The due date is chosen by a parent.

Split across sittings as needed;no timer or required date.Adult approval remains required even for independent work.

Materials: paper, pencil, optional calculator.

Prepare for the midyear check by explaining methods, not memorizing one menu. Select evidence from planning, safety, labels, measurement, and meal management. Identify one skill that transfers to a new situation and one area needing support. Review is parent-paced; you may split it across sittings. A simulation is not lesser work when it demonstrates the same decisions. Safety and boundaries: No purchase, event invitation, real guest, or personal receipt is required. Adult reviews allergens and manages heat/sharp tools; keep food safely cold/hot if any optional food is used. Family-only evidence;use fictional details,no faces or private records. No purchases are required.

Worked example

Unscored model for discussion;use the assignment case for your own work.

A student transfers the method“compare equal units”from package prices to recipe quantities rather than copying an old answer.

Midyear portfolio rehearsal and transfer — evidence and reflection

  1. 1. Make a five-section portfolio index:systems, safety, nutrition, measurement, and meal management.
  2. 2. Solve a new scaling problem:halve 2½cups beans and 1 cup vegetables.
  3. 3. Explain one food-temperature rule and one privacy rule with a fictional example.
  4. 4. Write a two-step support plan for a skill that is not yet independent.
  5. 5. Spiral review — Design a varied fictional lunch with one ingredient restriction and an adult-review note. Spiral review.

Acceptance checks

An adult supervises. This stays in the family. Spending is a simulation, not real money.

For any optional food, adult verifies all ingredients and established allergy needs;avoid cross-contact,no tolerance tests, and use paper food if uncertain. For clothing/cleaning,adult checks sensitivities and labels;no chemical mixing.

No purchase, event invitation, real guest, or personal receipt is required. Adult reviews allergens and manages heat/sharp tools; keep food safely cold/hot if any optional food is used.

Complete the entire task using paper diagrams, fictional data,empty/inactive tools, and parent-observed explanation.

  • No unsupervised heat,sharp tools,cleaners,or appliances.
  • No raw-meat handling,unsafe food tasting,chemical mixing,flame/smoke experiments,or electrical repair.
  • No real childcare/medical/intimate care,financial transactions,credentials,private records,or public posting.

If this is still shaky. Use this lesson’s worked model to make a three-box process card.Label the goal, one safety/constraint check, and the evidence you would show.Explain it to a parent before trying the main task again.

Optional extra. Change one fictional constraint in this lesson, such as available time, access, ingredient restriction,or pretend cost.Revise one artifact and show what must change and what safety/privacy rule stays fixed.
