PLECK lesson 108 · suggested week 22, day 3

Detergent labels and chemical boundaries

Objective. Detergent labels and chemical boundaries:apply the stated method to a concrete case, produce the requested evidence, and justify safe, private, and accessible choices.

About 25–50 minutes. The due date is chosen by a parent.

Split across sittings as needed;no timer or required date.Adult approval remains required even for independent work.

Materials: paper, pencil, optional calculator.

Detergent amount depends on product directions, load, and machine type. More detergent is not automatically cleaner. Keep products in original labeled containers, away from children and pets; laundry packets are not toys and must not be opened for class. An adult chooses and handles any product. Never mix cleaners or stain removers. Use an invented label and empty paper measuring marks. Safety and boundaries: Adult directly supervises needles, scissors, pins, appliances, and any products; count sharps before/after. No chemical mixing, pod opening, irons, machines, or real garment repair is required. Keep small parts from children/pets. Family-only evidence;use fictional details,no faces or private records. No purchases are required.

Worked example

Unscored model for discussion;use the assignment case for your own work.

A pretend label says one marked amount for a standard load; the student reads it rather than adding extra“just in case.”

Detergent labels and chemical boundaries — evidence and reflection

  1. 1. Create a fictional detergent-use checklist including label, machine compatibility, adult handling, and storage.
  2. 2. Explain two risks of unlabeled transferred detergent bottles.
  3. 3. Draw a dose-measurement plan using an empty outline, no actual product.
  4. 4. Respond to“open a laundry pod to see what's inside.”
  5. 5. Spiral review — Available 180; essentials 95; savings 25; flexible 30. Find buffer. Spiral review.

Acceptance checks

An adult supervises. This stays in the family. Spending is not required.

For any optional food, adult verifies all ingredients and established allergy needs;avoid cross-contact,no tolerance tests, and use paper food if uncertain. For clothing/cleaning,adult checks sensitivities and labels;no chemical mixing.

Adult directly supervises needles, scissors, pins, appliances, and any products; count sharps before/after. No chemical mixing, pod opening, irons, machines, or real garment repair is required. Keep small parts from children/pets.

Complete the entire task using paper diagrams, fictional data,empty/inactive tools, and parent-observed explanation.

  • No unsupervised heat,sharp tools,cleaners,or appliances.
  • No raw-meat handling,unsafe food tasting,chemical mixing,flame/smoke experiments,or electrical repair.
  • No real childcare/medical/intimate care,financial transactions,credentials,private records,or public posting.

If this is still shaky. Use this lesson’s worked model to make a three-box process card.Label the goal, one safety/constraint check, and the evidence you would show.Explain it to a parent before trying the main task again.

Optional extra. Change one fictional constraint in this lesson, such as available time, access, ingredient restriction,or pretend cost.Revise one artifact and show what must change and what safety/privacy rule stays fixed.
