PLECK lesson 96 · suggested week 20, day 1

Plan purposeful sounds

Objective. Map audio cues to events without making audio mandatory.

Godot Engine Standard desktop editor 4.7.2-stable, GDScript (Godot 4), Compatibility renderer. Headless Godot 4.7.2.stable.official.ed1daf0bf passed 106 assertions on the supplied scaffolds, including malformed JSON saves. Audio used the Dummy driver and a synthetic WAV, not a speaker. The visual editor, browser export, and signed-in submission were not tested. The desk still does not run a student's own upload.

About 55 minutes. The due date is chosen by a parent.

Original sound, safe levels, activation, mute and licensing

Suggested pace: Recall and predict 5 min; Read instruction and scaffold 12 min; Build or design the assigned artifact 25 min; Run acceptance tests 8 min; Explain and checkpoint 5 min.

Materials: Paper and pencil or a private text document, Local course folder and prior checkpoint, No paid assets or public account required.

Comes after VGC-L095.

Audio can confirm an action, signal a change or establish mood. It should not be the only way to know that a required event occurred. Create an event table for collect, damage, checkpoint and completion. For each, specify a short sound and an equivalent visual cue. Silence can be a valid design choice. Avoid continuous loud music or startling peaks. No learner must record their voice; an original tap, simple teacher-provided sound or no-sound version meets the planning goal.

Worked example

A short original tap sound confirms a collected object while a number changes on screen. Muting the tap leaves all required information visible.

Plan purposeful sounds — evidence task

  1. 1. Write an audio/visual cue table for four events.
  2. 2. Identify which events need priority if sounds overlap.

Deliverable. Four-event sound design sheet.

Acceptance checks

  • VGC-L096-T1. Every essential sound has an equivalent visible cue.
  • VGC-L096-T2. No task requires voice, face or personal recording.

Understanding question. Why is a completion chime alone insufficient feedback?

Submit readable text or photos/scans of each numbered design page. Audio explanation may supplement a diagram or text, not replace requested artifacts.

If this is still shaky. Use one short teacher-provided original sound or a privately recorded tap. Keep volume modest and retain text cues. Start with the first assigned task and re-run its acceptance test before adding the remaining feature.

Optional extra. Compare two sound choices with the same loudness and explain which better communicates the event. Document one changed parameter, your prediction, and the observed effect; optional, not required for completion.

Turn in a typed answer, a JPEG, PNG, or WebP photo, a PDF scan, or an MP3, WAV, M4A, MP4, or WebM file up to 4 MB. A parent can log paper. One https address is stored as text and is not opened or run. Zip and code files are refused.
